Dr. Irene Kokkala, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence who teaches both online and regular classes, said, “Online classes have flexibility that is invaluable.” Known as asynchronous classes, they do not require you to get on at certain times and this provides plenty of flexibility. Students can do assignments and get information in their own time. This allows for working around jobs, other classes and other responsibilities. Another thing to know about online classes is that they are supposed to cover the same amount of material that a normal class does. They are not aiming to strap you with tons of material and leave you hanging. It is for that reason that online class curricula are formed before the class begins. This allows for a reliable structure and creates a schedule that does not vary much.
