A new University of Wisconsin System website dedicated to online learning has the potential to be a valuable tool in increasing higher education attainment in the Badger State. Launched earlier this month, the eCampus website is designed to serve as a gateway to more than 70 online degree and certificate programs offered throughout the UW System’s 13 two-year and 13 four-year campuses. System officials hope it will help boost a larger strategy to increase the number of degrees granted at UW campuses by 30 percent during the next 15 years, an effort they say would create an additional 80,000 college graduates. About one quarter of Wisconsin adults age 25 and older held a bachelor’s degree in 2006, compared with 30 percent of comparable Minnesota residents and nearly 29 percent of those in Illinois, according to data from the U.S. Census. The percentage of Wisconsin degree holders consistently lags behind neighboring states and the national average, according to the UW System.
