Last month, NYU Local reported on NYU’s new Open Education initiative, which will offer free online video courses to anyone and will experiment with offering those courses for credit to NYU undergraduates in Fall 2011. The University has just gone live with two courses — ‘New York City: A Social History’ and ‘American Literature I: From Beginnings To The Civil War’ — fully available with lecture notes, the associated reading, and the opportunity to respond on the project’s Facebook or Twitter. More courses will be added in the coming months. The courses are posted both to NYU’s Open Ed page and to their YouTube account.
