Blended learning aids in educational innovation

In a flipped learning class, students watch lectures on a video and complete their homework during class. “I feel like it gives us more time and more freedom to plan out how we want to do our week’s worth of work. if we can work independently, we can go at our own pace, and it we need more help we’re always offered that help,” Ahmed said. Innovation — to high school student Hanna Ahmed, it’s a way to take control. To Temple Independent School District Superintendent Bobby Ott, it’s one of three keys to improving achievement levels in disadvantaged demographic groups. And it underpins the other two: establishing better relationships between teachers and students, and making it possible for teachers to spend more time with students. One of the innovations currently in vogue at Temple High School is the flipped classroom, where students watch lectures on a video and complete their “homework” in class. Ahmed is a fan.
