A year ago, Apple and Google enjoyed a strong relationship. Google CEO Eric Schmidt was sitting on Apple’s board and the companies were silent partners in a battle against Microsoft. Their goal at the time was to dominate their respective markets and join forces wherever they could to attack their shared enemy, Microsoft. The issues started when Apple rejected the Google Voice application access to the App Store. But rather than find an easy solution, the battle between the two companies ramped up as Jobs and Schmidt traded barbs. That resulted in Schmidt no longer sitting on Apple’s board and Jobs saying that Google’s “Don’t be evil” mantra is nonsense.
