Bridging the online learning curve - India Express Computer
Widespread dissemination of knowledge has been the most important objective of distance education at IITs and IIMs, says Nivedan Prakash. Distance learning education has gained momentum with the advent of innovative technologies. The seamless integration of today’s technologies has literally brought the classroom to your home or workplace where high quality education can be imparted to a large number of participants across the country.
Comments:
IIT and IIMs are a niche phenomenon in India. The reality is that distant learning is a long way off due to lack of access to cheap broadband services. Laying landlines to provide DSL services is cumbersome and expensive in our cities. Wireless services are geared more to the corporates than individual users. Pricing and quality of broadband is still a major hindrance to growth of internet in India. Unless the vast majority of people have cheap access to broadband of atleast 2mbps distant learning growth is going to remain distant.
