She's finishing her degree -- online - Carolyn Hamblin, the Kansan
If you find yourself on the Internet, just looking around, you can create a search for online universities that may appeal to you. However, before you begin, do your homework. If you do return to school online, you may be eligible for grants or school loans. Research the school, like you would any business, to make sure they are creditable. Most of the schools should have a federal ID code that you would need if you were applying for a loan or a grant. If the school you are looking at does not have a federal ID code, you may want to consider looking at a different online school. You may also call a college here in Kansas to see how they accept online credits. Will they transfer or not? After I did my research, I soon found myself enrolled in classes and ordering books. Like many new things we may try, it may take some time to adjust to a new environment. I found I had to add a whole other folder to my e-mail to allow for the classrooms that I would need. For each classroom we have a main newsroom, a student chat room, a room for course materials and an individual room so that only the student and instructor may communicate with each other. Put these all together and they make the combination called "distance learning."
