Online Learning Moves into the Future - Anna Krejci, Green Bay News-Chronicle
February is the month when students across the state can enroll in schools outside of their home districts. In the 2003-04 school year, 15,413 students attended schools outside of their district according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Of those, a fraction are attending virtual schools. iQ Academies, an online high school in the Waukesha School District, is in its first year. The 230 students enrolled come from about 140 different school districts across Wisconsin. About 24 students are from the Fox River Valley. Heidi Laabs, director of education for the Waukesha School District's iQ Academies and director of curriculum for the district, expects as many as 750 students to enroll for its second year. Enrollment in online schools is doubling or tripling, Laabs said.
