Ken Elliott, 36, always wanted to get his doctorate. When he found an opportunity to do so online, he couldn’t pass it up. Elliott, director of telecommunications and coordinator of distance education at Catawba Valley Community College, began pursuing a Ph.D. in communications technology through Capella University in 2001. The school is an online university.... April Cline, 39, instructor for business division at CVCC, obtained her master’s of education through online and distance education methods. She took courses through Appalachian State University. She learned through 3D technology, which allows students to “walk” around in classrooms online and find materials they need.
