End-of-semester pressure can lead to plagiarism - Krystle Kopacz, Penn State Collegian

As the semester ends, many students feel pressured to finish final papers. The time constraints students feel may cause some to purchase papers from the Internet and turn them in. A study conducted by Rutgers University in 2001 showed 41 percent of students admitted to plagiarizing using the Internet, a significant jump from the 10 percent reported in 1999. "Plagiarism is always a problem," said Antonio Ceraso, composition assistant for the College of the Liberal Arts. He said that this time of the year, there is a slight but not a significant increase in plagiarism cases. According to the Web site www.cyberessays.com, providing an essay for students is a way to challenge "lazy" professors to think of new, creative assignments.
