Northern State professor nets state honor - Russ Keen, American News
A Northern State University freshman torn between watching television or studying for Biology 101 now has the option of doing both - well, sort of. This spring semester, professor Dan Tallman added computer access to videos as another electronic tool for teaching that huge biology class with about 200 students.... This year the South Dakota Board of Regents, which governs the state university system, is honoring Tallman for his achievements. At a banquet Thursday night in Aberdeen, he received a Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in E-Learning from the regents.... Tallman's award is for using various technologies, including the Internet, in a large-class setting. Judges praised the Biology 101 Web site for its easy navigation and user-friendly nature, adding special kudos for the information it provides students on exams, quizzes and assignments.
