Internet enrollment at North Texas increased from 1,500 students in the fall of 2000 to 6,000 students in the spring of 2003, but that growth rate is only partially attributable to the increase in non-traditional students. While the push toward more online undergraduate courses has helped provide non-traditional students greater flexibility in juggling school and family, it has resulted in what some view as undesirable side effects. Freshmen increasingly are logging on to the computer instead of filling seats in the classroom. "Some of the students live in dorms and are totally online," Dr. Philip Turner dean and associate vice president for academic affairs for distance education said.
