Two grants power up Internet - Pocono Record
Delaware Valley students will be able to take greater advantage of the Internet thanks to two recent grants. One grant, administered through Community of Agile Partners in Education (CAPE), a consortium of educational institutions that provides assistance to its members, will pay all the costs of connecting to "Internet2." "I2," as it is called by the researchers involved in its development, is a consortium led by more than 200 universities. Several Pennsylvania colleges have either joined the network or have hosted "I2" informational days. The idea behind "I2" is to dedicate space on the Internet for education, research and development and to develop new technologies and applications that will eventually benefit even people who are not members of the network. Independent distance learning, digital libraries, virtual laboratories and tele-immersion are just some of the projects "I2" affiliates are working on.
