Distance program put masters degree in reach - Martin K. Eby, Wichita Eagle
Eby vice president Joe Levens wanted to get a master's degree in engineering technology with emphasis in construction management from his alma mater, Pittsburg State University. Because of his job responsibilities, it wasn't feasible to commute to the campus in southeast Kansas or to take an extended leave from work. Levens pitched the idea of establishing a multidisciplinary master's program at Pittsburg State that would allow him to do the work via conference calls and the Internet. It took him three years and the help of four Pittsburg State professors, but Levens got the job done.
