Director of military affairs reports for duty Duncan serves as a liaison between the military and university - Judy Clark, East Carolinian
Steve Duncan settled into his position at ECU last week as director of military affairs. The position was created about two years ago, but was frozen due to budget constraints. Duncan's duty includes coordinating relationships between ECU and the military through the use of technology.... "We have Air Force and Army ROTC already on campus," Duncan said. "Today the 'serve man' is made up of an active duty component, but it also made up of a great degree with National Guard and reservists, most of their time are spent as normal citizens. They get deployed now in a 50 percent mix with the active components. So they may be going to college today and deployed tomorrow." According to Duncan, tuition is a concern among the military personnel. When a soldier is transfer to another state, assistant funding does not cover all the out-of-state tuition. Distance learning could benefit soldiers out of the country as well as within the country.
