U of I Urbana Senate to discuss dissection alternatives - Evan Mclaughlin, Daily Illini
The Urbana-Champaign Senate educational policy committee has met with student groups and faculty to discuss using animal specimens in University science courses. Members of Students Improving the Lives of Animals spoke to the committee four days ago about a possible dissection policy, said committee chair Peter Mortensen. SILA wants the policy to include prohibiting animal dissections that violate ethical or religious beliefs. The policy would include providing alternatives to dissection.
