Plans for virtual medical school to be unveiled - David Firn in London
The internet has revolutionised healthcare by giving patients unprecedented access to the latest information on advances in medicine. Now the University of Dundee plans to create a virtual medical school to train doctors over the internet. The University plans to spend £2.5m ($4m) bringing resources from more than 50 of the world's top medial schools to create the International Virtual Medical School. The plan, which will be launched next week at the World eLearning Conference in Edinburgh, is the first attempt to use distance learning to train doctors. It has the backing of leading institutions such as Harvard Medical School and the US Board of Medical Examiners as well as universities that teach large rural populations such as Queensland in Australia.
