Online Ads for U. of Phoenix Irk Officials at Other Colleges - ANDREA L. FOSTER, the Chronicle
Officials at several colleges are still smarting from online advertisements last week that they say suggested that their institutions were affiliated with the University of Phoenix Online. Until Phoenix pulled the ads, on Thursday, Internet surfers who sought information about certain colleges were easily misdirected to the Web site of the University of Phoenix Online. If the Internet user typed the phrase "Alfred University" into Google or another search engine, the Web site produced the correct search results along with a box that was headed "Alfred University." The box said, "Earn Your Degree 100% Online. Request No-Risk Information."
