Website fills skills gap in Surrey
AN online learning website that could save Surrey businesses millions of pounds has been launched at Guildford College. The site – designed to tackle a skill shortage – follows research that showed that around one-sixth of the county's work force have poor basic skills. Each under-skilled worker could be costing employers as much as £2,270 a year in lost productivity. Now Guildford College has launched the web-based Essential Skills programme in partnership with Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership, the GMB union (general workers union) and leading distance training provider, M3i.
