Harvard Closer to Distance Learning Degrees, THE CRIMSON STAFF

A minor change in wording has created major possibilities for many of Harvard’s academic programs. After Sunday’s unanimous decision by the Board of Overseers to add the word “ordinarily” in front of the clause that mandates a year of residency before students receive a Harvard degree, Harvard can now implement significant distance learning programs. This beneficial change, which will predominantly affect students in mid-career programs, both provides students with additional flexibility in pursuing degrees and gives Harvard the ability to possibly create more attractive academic programs.
