Govs urge Web teacher training - Hil Anderson, UPI
From its wide-open spaces to its bustling cities and growing student populations, the western United States is grappling with a chronic shortage of teachers that the region's governors believe can be eased with the innovative concept of distance learning. At their recent winter meeting outside Las Vegas, the Western Governors Association adopted a resolution calling on academics and software developers in their states to perfect the technology that would make it possible for a student to become a certified teacher while never physically setting foot on campus.
