Award-winning program makes education accessible - Raechal Leone, Odessa American
It is a chronic problem in West Texas: educational institutions are often located far from interested students, said Lois Hale, chair of the behavioral science department at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.“We simply were not successful in meeting the needs of our potential graduate students,” said Hale, a teacher at UTPB for 29 years. About two years ago, Hale decided to do something about the problem. She developed a grant for an online masters degree in kinesiology and recruited other University of Texas system campuses to participate. Now, 150 students from across the country are enrolled in the online program. Also, both Hale and the program garnered national awards this year.
