Library of Congress Taps the Grid

Scientists have harnessed the power of grid computing to seek a cure for AIDS, search for alien life and map the human genome. Now researchers are assessing ways to tap massive amounts of computing power to preserve some of American history's rarest digital relics, from Ansel Adams photographs to original drafts of the Declaration of Independence. The Library of Congress is evaluating grid technology developed at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) to preserve and manage the library's digital collections....
