Although many assume that faculty members have a basic understanding and familiarity with software applications and other tools for teaching online, this is not always true. While many faculty members do in fact use technology and other e-tools in their teaching, many come from a more traditional face-to-face lecture environment, and in fact may know less than the students they are about to instruct. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we do not expect faculty in our programs to have familiarity with the tools we use, so we provide initial and ongoing support for the teaching staff....
