The event started with a debate on the most polarizing education issue of our time -- high-stakes state testing. Participants were roughly equally split on the issue. Disagreements exposed in the first session were more the result of the pragmatic trade-offs of the current paper-and-pencil testing regime than real ideological differences. They then discussed a statewide assessment system for 2012.
