CERAULO Like many people whose formal education was based entirely on "chalk and talk" lectures, I was skeptical about the value of online education. But in 1999, I was in a bind. I wanted to take information technology courses, but was unable to commute to nighttime lectures. So I decided to give an online course a try. Though it was only a noncredit adult education course, I was immediately impressed with the caliber of my online classmates. The students really wanted to learn, and their introductory remarks revealed that most of them were taking the course by choice....
