E-learning Cultures Around the World
Nick van Dam, Eileen Rogers, e-learning Magazine

The export of ideas to people in other countries without regard for the values context in which these ideas were developed can be observed in the domains of education and, in particular, management and organization." -Geert Hofstede, Software of the Mind. Innovation in technology and increasing global access to the Internet is pushing relentlessly toward a seamless world of "e." A host of opportunities, including e-learning, are becoming available in countries where a lack of access to education and learning has hindered growth in the past. As the Internet goes global...so does e-learning.... It is projected that by 2003, 36 percent of all Internet users will prefer to use a language other than English. In Japan, 84 percent will prefer to use Japanese. In Latin America, 75 percent will prefer Spanish or Portuguese, and in Western Europe, 52 percent will prefer a language other than English.
