Keeping Students in the Center at Moraine Valley

Afraid of losing the type of interaction that traditional instruction provided, Mary Rita Freudenthal saw the power that a spirit of intellectual inquiry via online learning afforded. She also saw the benefits of individual attention and one-on-one communication virtually.... Just beyond Chicago's city limits, Freudenthal is part of a team of professors at Moraine Valley Community College that has been shifting their paradigms about the type of education and the delivery of educational services to students. The college is taking great strides to empower faculty members with technical tools, training and resources necessary to help students to achieve their educational goals. "We are only as successful as our students are, and we believe this means making their educational goals ours," said Diane Grund, assistant vice president for academic affairs.
