Director Named for African Virtual University
Roland Ogbonnaya, This Day (Lagos)

The Governing Board of the African Virtual University (AVU) has appointed Dr. Cheik Modibbo Diarra as the institutions director and chief executive officer. His appointment came after a regorous world wide search process. Chairman of the board, Professor Phinias Makhurane said in a statement that "as AVU transitions to its full operational scale, we needed a highly qualified candidate and we found these qualities in Dr. Diarra. With his accomplishments and credibility, we are confident that he will lead AVU as it strengthens its network to further enhance higher education in Africa." AVU is a technology-facilitated higher learning institution that uses modern information and communication technologies to give countries of sub Saharan Africa direct access to some of the highest quality learning resources throughout the world....
