http://chronicle.com/free/2002/02/2002021501u.htm U. of the Arctic Offers First Course Toward Degree in Circumpolar Studies By JANICE PASKEY This week, the University of the Arctic introduced its first online course, "Introduction to the Circumpolar World," as the first step toward establishing a bachelor's-degree program in circumpolar studies. The new university's goal is to train a new generation of leaders who can deal with policy issues for the world's northernmost regions across national boundaries. The University of Arctic is a partnership of 31 "high latitude" colleges, universities and First Nations governments that was formed last year. Courses will be offered both by distance education and at member institutions in the eight nations involved....
