Libraries originated in times when scholars were their own librarians, and librarians inevitably scholars, but since World War II that has been the exception, not the rule. Now we hear calls for libraries and faculty members to work together in planning for preservation, for remote storage, and for the creation of digital surrogates to serve both preservation and access. How would such collaboration work?...
