Indiana Governor, Facing Deficits, Seeks to Cut Technology Spending for Colleges

Public-college administrators in Indiana are bracing for cuts in state technology spending under a plan developed by the governor to avoid running a deficit. The governor, Frank O'Bannon, a Democrat, has proposed not releasing $29-million that was supposed to be spent on technology this fiscal year, which began in July. About half was slated for computers, software, and other purchases. The other half was for technology employees' salaries. Most colleges hadn't spent any of the money, officials said, because of uncertainty over whether it would be released....
