The institutions hope the program, which initially will teach basic material and later expand into graduate-level courses, will be a step toward improving science education in Africa. They also hope it will eventually enable more Africans to become scientists and stay in the region to tackle such problems as AIDS, damaged ecosystems, political instability and other issues....
