America's First City to Offer Free Internet Access Extends Pilot Program

LAGRANGE, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 2001 via NewsEdge Corporation - The City of LaGrange, Georgia, announced today it is extending its LaGrange Internet TV (LITV) pilot program through September 30, 2002. The program offers free Internet access via cable television to LaGrange residents. Originally announced in March, 2000, the program has attracted international attention and spotlighted LaGrange as a role model in broadband communications and in bridging the digital divide.... One of the most noteworthy programs being developed for LITV is an educational loan program made possible by a grant from the Callaway Foundation.
