U.S. Congress to decide future of distance learning
TEACH Act to allow transmission of copyrighted works over Internet

The difference between traditional and virtual classrooms could become less apparent if a bill allowing the transmission of copyright material over the Internet is approved by the United States Congress.

The Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization, or TEACH, Act, would allow online educators to transmit portions of copyrighted material over the Internet long allowed under current law in traditional classroom settings.

The Senate approved the TEACH Act June 7, and the House is currently considering their version of the plan....
