Texas-Austin (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- The growing emphasis on technology and Web-based instruction in University of Texas-Austin curriculum has drawn the attention of faculty members at the largest private Latin American institution of higher education, inspiring a three-week education seminar on campus. Paul Resta, director of the Learning Technology Center and professor of curriculum and instruction in the College of Education, has spearheaded an intensive seminar for faculty members of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) system in Mexico. More than 45 faculty members from all 30 of ITESM's campuses are present for the event, which runs from May 27 through June 15. Participants attend three to four sessions each day about "collaborative" teaching techniques and educational issues and are designing new curriculum for courses at ITESM. Resta described "collaborative learning" as "developing strategies for helping students construct their own knowledge." ....
