Parent questions text messaging in school - Jennifer Feals, Seacoast Online
For parents, cell phones are a way to keep in touch with their children, especially in case of an emergency, but at least one Exeter parent is asking if some students at Exeter High School might be abusing this privilege of technology. After his cell phone bill jumped $170, Rocky Rochford noticed 30 pages of text messages on the line of his daughter, a senior at Exeter High School. The messages were sent at all hours of the day, including during school, leaving him to question why phones would be allowed in school and if faculty members are aware of the possible impact on students' academic performance, he said.

Comments:
On the flipside, schools are now using text messaging services like lolatext to communicate with students and parents via text message (SMS). Imagine a school emergency in which students can be notified even if they're in the bathroom! With recent events, it's hard to ignore the need for this type of thing.
