Books and paper becoming classroom relics - Ashley Northington, Shreveporttimes
Students in Glen Sullivan's science classes are frustrated when they have to work without the use of a computer. The Plain Dealing High School students hardly want to work with a book, pencil and paper. In this class and scads of others in the area, interactive SMART boards have replaced dry-erase and chalk boards while desktop computers have replaced pens and notebook paper. For some classes, huge textbooks aren't found in lockers and backpacks; books on compact disks are the new norm. "Kids are using technology in almost everything," Sullivan said. "It's easier for them to learn with what they are used to using, so why not use it in the classroom?"
