Pennsylvania State goal: laptops on all desktops - Tamara Simpson, VALLEY NEWS DISPATCH
Some high schools could have a computer on every desk as early as this fall if Gov. Ed Rendell's "Classrooms for the Future" initiative is approved by the General Assembly this month. The $200 million, three-year program calls for laptop computers, SMARTBoards (interactive white boards), digital cameras and other multimedia technology in core subject classrooms -- English, math, science and social studies. If approved, the initiative would transform learning and teaching in classrooms across the state, said state Education Secretary Gerald Zahorchak.
