Laptop teaching doesn't compute - Erica Cervini, the Age (Australia)
Laptop computers have failed to transform teaching in senior school classrooms, according to a study. Victorian private schools led the world in introducing compulsory laptop programs in 1990, with the promise that teaching would become more student-centred. But today's senior classrooms are barely different from those of last century, with students still taking hand-written notes and verbal instructions from teachers, says Swinburne University academic Tony Whitefield. His paper, Will This Be On The Exam? Laptop Computers in the Classroom, says there is no evidence of "the perceived advances and improvements in education" as a result of longstanding laptop programs in schools.
