The walls came down and the modems were plugged in for five taxpayer-funded charter schools chosen this week to lead the state in an education venture where children can get a K-12 education via their home computer. Five virtual schools were approved Monday in a marathon State Board for Charter Schools meeting where 19 applicants jockeyed for the limited slots. "Distance learning is the cutting edge of options for kids and families," said Onnie Shekerjian, president of the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools.
