TIU to open Blended Charter School - TABITHA GOODLING, Lewistown, Pennsylvania Sentinel
As of July 1, students in kindergarten through 12th grade who reside within the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 have an option as to how they can get their education. The TIU, with the support of eight of its nine school districts, is quite possibly the first in the state to offer a charter school that is run by and overseen by the school districts.... Students, with the help of Gilliland can set up their class schedule as part time or full time, choose how they would like to take their classes and do most of their work on their own time. For example, a student at Juniata High School may choose to take algebra with his peers at the high school, but may take an English class through distance learning and a history class through the internet. A student who takes a class in an actual classroom is marked as a charter student on the attendance roster.
