Double-clicking on the virtual classroom - KATHY WAGSTAFF , The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

While online learning isn't new to Cherokee County, school officials are putting new emphasis on the virtual classroom for high school students in the 2003-04 academic year. The program began three years ago and has grown from a half dozen students enrolled the first year to more than 50 this year. But the growth has come piecemeal, as guidance counselors directed students to approved online programs. School administrators hope to make online learning systemwide more standardized, said Barbara Broughton, supervisor of curriculum.
