Brunswick, N.C. schools consider online offerings - Brock Vergakis, The Sun News

In an effort to improve the highest dropout rate in North Carolina, the Brunswick County school system is considering expanding its correspondence course offerings. The Brunswick County Board of Education will vote on a policy change Tuesday that would allow students to take correspondence courses online from other school systems.... "It really is a proactive approach as we go into educational reform," said Katie McGee, associate superintendent for curriculum and assessment. "I can see students who are potentially dropping out needing it." Experts say some students at risk of dropping out do better with nontraditional approaches to learning such as online courses.
