Laptop program has seen success - MICHAEL P. BUFFER, The Express-Times
Across the nation, school districts are looking at giving laptop computers to students for classes and homework. Among that number is the Bethlehem Area School District. Officials there would like to provide laptops to all sixth-grade students in September and to all students in sixth to 12th grade by 2008-09. A few districts and one state have already given laptops to students for classroom and overnight use. Last fall, Maine distributed laptops to all seventh-graders -- about 17,000 students. Maine is the first state in the U.S. to give computers to students in an entire grade level, state officials say.
