Wisconsin Teachers plan to protest virtual charter school - ANNE DAVIS, Milwaukee Journal Star

The Northern Ozaukee School District will hold a public information session on the district's new school, Wisconsin Virtual Academy... The virtual school, which is expected to open this fall, is a joint venture of the district and K12 Inc., a for-profit education company. The school will serve students all over the state who enrolled under the state's open enrollment law.... "We have very, very serious concerns and questions about this approach to education. It's attacking the very core of what we do," said high school teacher Mike Herrick, chief negotiator for the Fredonia Education Association. "As a professional, I just don't like the idea that a CD-ROM would replace me." Herrick said teachers would present a formal statement of concern by the association during a public information session Thursday. The session has been organized by district officials and representatives of K12 Inc., a for-profit education company headed by former U.S. Secretary of Education Bill Bennett that is a partner in creating the Wisconsin Virtual Academy.
