Florida schools ready to enter cyber-highway fast lane - Paula Holzman
..."The Department of Education is moving more and more toward Internet-based delivery, like the FCAT Explorer (program) that is Web-based," Jasa said. "The more we move to that method, the more we need higher speeds. A lot of high schools do distance learning with Indian River Community College. In order to screen video, we have to have a faster connection." The use of online video or music is a drain on the current system, especially when several students use it at once, he said. Faster access will ease the problem. The new network is set to be installed over the summer. Jasa expected about 70 percent of the annual fee will be covered by a federal grant.
