Committee defeats bill to reward tech teachers - Susan Smith, Community News Service

A South Dakota House Committee killed a bill Feb. 6 to increase pay for teachers that use distance-learning technology. Rep. Cooper Garnos, R-Presho, introduced the bill. Forty-seven distance-learning classes are scheduled for K-12 education this spring. Fifty-four were taught in the fall of 2002. He estimated the state has spent about $55 million outfitting schools for technology.
