Who Says Science Can't Be Fun? By Karlin Lillington, Wired

The famed physicist and mathematician Richard Feynman used to say that his most creative activity was playing -- something he was well known for doing at lectures and in his writings. He once confided as much to Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Kenneth Haase, who is now acting director of MIT's Media Lab Europe in Dublin. "It's not that play shouldn't be fun, but at its best, play is in fact a lot more," said Haase. "Play is really the wellspring of activity." That's the message Media Lab Europe was pushing to potential corporate patrons this week at an open house determined to emphasize the seriousness of the often whimsical research and experimentation it carries out along with its parent organization, the world-famous MIT Media Lab.
