Chickasaws receive grant for computers

The Chickasaw Foundation has received a $15,000 grant for a program that refurbishes and distributes excess computer equipment to Chickasaw students, elders and others.
The grant from Microsoft will fund the Chickasaw Nation Computer Literacy and Distribution program. Most who receive the reconditioned equipment would otherwise be unable to afford computer access, tribe officials said. While approximately 54 percent of Americans are online, it is estimated that only about nine percent of Native Americans can afford computers and only about eight percent are actively on the Internet.
